Our PhD in Political Science covers four fields: American government, comparative politics, international relations, and public policy. The curriculum introduces students to all four fields, though each student will concentrate on a primary and secondary field.
The Political Science PhD Program is designed for students whose primary concern is a mastery of theories, methods of research, and substantive literature of the discipline of political science.
The major in political science provides an opportunity for students to learn about politics in a variety of realms and settings. Students generally begin the major with 200-level courses, which provide a general introduction to subfields of political science as well as background for 300-level courses.
S. Sara Monoson is the author of Plato’s Democratic Entanglements: Athenian Politics and the Practice of Philosophy (2000). Her research interests include Greek political theory in historical context and classical reception studies, especially the history of appropriations of Greek philosophers in American political discourse (e.g., about abolition, war and peace, labor and industry, cold.
